Lewis has been nominated for a top honour in the 2009 Laureus World Sports Awards. Now in their 10th year the Laureus Awards are considered the premier honours in the sporting world.
After winning the "World Breakthrough of the Year" award last year, reigning Formula One world champion Lewis is up against sprinter Usain Bolt, tennis ace Rafael Nadal, swimmer Michael Phelps, footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and MotoGP's Valentino Rossi in the main category of "World Sportsman of the Year".
Lewis is touched by the nomination; "It still amazes me when I see my name up alongside those who are at the top of their chosen sport, people who I admire for their sporting ability and who have the skill and determination to be the best".
The recipients of the Awards will be announced during May and June.
